Abstract

This research analyzes and studies the reasons behind the righteousness and reformative capacity of
Imam IBN BADIS, as perceived and documented by the historian Sheikh Muhammad Ali DABOUZ—one of the most prominent chroniclers of the reformist movement in Algeria. DABOUZ emphasized the need to move beyond superficial praise of great figures and instead delve into the roots of their greatness. The study elaborates on these reasons in four main areas: sound upbringing, adherence to the Qur’an, initiating reform from the mosque, and sincerity, trust in God, and self-sacrifice. The research demonstrates that Sheikh IBN BADIS was the product of a well-rounded environment—
familial, educational, religious, and social—which played a significant role in shaping him as a reformist
scholar. His sincere commitment to Islam, his recourse to God, and his full dedication to the cause of his nation had a profound impact on the success of his reformist mission.
