Abstract

Abdelhamid Ben Badis (1889–1940) is considered a pioneer in protecting Algerian national identity under French colonialism, which sought to erase the people’s cultural foundations. He established the Religious
Association for Reform, the Cultural Club, and educational journals to prepare generations based on Islamic and national principles, with a strong emphasis on the Arabic language, national culture, and modern education
that serves collective memory and strengthens attachment to the original identity. He also played a pivotal role in spreading awareness about the importance of solidarity and belonging to the nation, and in resisting attempts
at division and cultural erasure. This article aims to highlight these enlightening contributions, which had a
significant impact on shaping collective consciousness and laying a strong foundation for building a robust
national character anchored in its cultural and civilizational values in the era of challenges.
