The protection of the environment is one of the important aspects of international
humanitarian law that seeks to ensure respect for it, which corresponds to its main role of
safeguarding human life in all its components, including the environment, which finds its primary source in the general provisions of international humanitarian law, and some
additional special provisions. This is what the researcher tried to review in this study by showing the role of international humanitarian law in the protection of the environment
during armed conflict, or in other words to define the concept of the environment covered by the protection of international humanitarian law from the dangers of armed conflict,
and the justifications for this, and the role of the principles underlying this law in devoting That protection.
